Find an Impaired Driving Lawyer by City

Impaired driving charges are heard in the Ontario Court of Justice in the city where you were stopped, so most people look for a lawyer who regularly appears in that courthouse. Each city guide explains how local police and courts handle DUI, over 80 and refusal charges, and lists the impaired driving lawyers who serve the area:

Why Use Ontario DUI Lawyers?

An impaired driving conviction under the Criminal Code of Canada brings a mandatory minimum fine, a driving prohibition, ignition interlock and a criminal record that can affect your job and travel to the United States. Those consequences are why it pays to speak with a criminal defence lawyer early, before your first court date.

  • Local defence lawyers: every listing is a criminal defence firm that handles impaired driving cases, with its office address, phone number and the Ontario courts it appears in. Defence lawyers review the Crown’s disclosure and challenge evidence obtained in breach of your rights under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
  • Plain-language guides: learn how the 90-day administrative driver’s licence suspension (ADLS), warn-range suspensions, vehicle impoundment, the Back on Track remedial program and ignition interlock work in Ontario.
  • Search by city or charge: find lawyers for impaired driving, over 80, refusal to provide a breath sample and drug-impaired driving, then contact a firm directly to ask about a first consultation.

Stopped for Drinking and Driving in Ontario?

An impaired driving stop in Ontario usually brings two problems at once. At the roadside, a reading of 0.08 or more, or a failed or refused breath or drug test, means an immediate 90-day licence suspension, a 7-day vehicle impoundment and a $550 penalty. A warn-range reading of 0.05 to 0.079 brings a 7-day suspension and a $250 penalty the first time. Police can also lay Criminal Code charges such as impaired driving, over 80 or refusal, which go to court separately.

Our guides explain the types of Ontario licence suspensions, how ignition interlock works, the Back on Track remedial program and how to get your licence back.
